Biodiversity
Each of the Scandinavian countries have between 200 and 300 species of bees. These many species of bumble bees and solitary bees have a great interest among beekeepers.
Like in many other countries several species are threatened with extinction. Both honeybees and other species of bees rely on the health of local ecosystems, the diversity of plant species and the protection of wild and semi-natural habitats. Domestic bees must share these ecosystems with the wild species that are required to sustain them.
Many beekeepers are very active in the role of promoting sustainability in both agricultural and urban development and can be seen as an important body for sustainability goals. They have a well-developed understanding of environmental sustainability because their livestock has such a close relationship with the health of natural and agricultural ecosystems.
